From the 50th to the 90th Croatia has been quite active as a film production country, both in shooting local films and in hosting international productions. Because of the war in the 90th the foreign productions got less but a lot of domestic production went on. This means there's a community of experienced industry professionals that work in Croatia, as well as on some of the biggest international productions (Schindler's List, Dragonhart, The Gladiator, and Black Hawk Down are just a few). GRAL film is working with all of them, and can provide excellent film crews if you're planning to shoot a feature film, commercial or music video in Croatia. We'll do the legwork for you, until the project is successfully accomplished.

Once you decide to try Croatia as a location for your work contact us and we shall provide the:

• Location scouting (with or without you, even if it would be a pleasure to introduce the Croatian cuisine and fine restaurants - most locations have one in vicinity)

  • We will do the scouting and recommend locations based on the script or your specifications fitted to the production needs.

    • Still and video shots of optional locations together with detailed descriptions will be provided transferred to you via courier or e-mail.

      • Upon your approval locations will be secured through contracts with the property owner.

        • The location will also be checked and information provided concerning production logistics, such as electrical outlets, parking space, accessibility of location to production vehicles, various department needs (storage, catering, offices, etc.)

If you decide to do your production in Croatia some legal details must be cleared:

Shooting Permits from the municipality and/or government, and the police must be obtained. There should not be problems with the state authorities, as we will not recommend any dubious location in the first place. GRAL film is registered as a film production and distribution company, and so has no administrative problems for dealing with any kind of film, TV or video production. The authorities will require a contract between your company and GRAL film determining the production services.

Working Permits will have to be obtained for your crew and cast. For the moment there are no restrictions on the amount of foreign staff shooting in Croatia. A form (provided by GRAL film) will have to be filled in and a copy of the passport is required.

Customs - Our experienced customs people can deal with temporary or definite imports and permits for filming equipment, props, wardrobe, stock etc. GRAL film is registered as an Import and Export company so we can import any necessary item to Croatia. If your equipment arrives by truck or van our agent will be on the Croatian border to help clear the customs. The same applies if your equipment arrives by plane. You only have to prepare a list of equipment with specified serial numbers and quantities, as well as estimated value.
